U trenutku pronalaska, novorođena devojčica je i dalje pupčanom vrpcom bila povezana sa mamom Afraom Abu Hadijom, koja je umrla.
Novorođenče je spaseno u ponedeljak popodne, više od 10 sati nakon zemljotresa. Nakon što su je spasioci iskopali, komšinica je presekla pupčanu vrpcu, a zatim su odjurili sa bebom u dečju bolnicu, gde je zadržana u inkubatoru.
Telesna temperatura bebe je pala na 35 stepeni Celzijusa i imala je modrice, uključujući i veliku na leđima, ali je ona u stabilnom stanju. lekari su procenili da je beba rođena nekoliko sati pre nego što je pronađena, s obzirom na to koliko joj je temperatura pala. Prednosti odlaganja presecanja pupčane vrpce
U svim porodilištima praksa je da se pupčana vrpca preseče u prvih 30 sekundi po rođenju. Sa ovom procedurom se obično žurilo, jer se smatralo da brzo presecanje smanjuje rizik od hemoragije (krvarenja) kod porodilja.

Odlaganje presecanja pupčane vrpce (OPPV) podrazumeva da se presecanje sprovede najmanje jedan minut nakon rođenja, a najduže dok pupčanik ne prestane da pulsira, odnosno do 5 minuta po rođenju. Suština je da nakon rođenja, bebu ne treba lišavati određene količine krvi iz posteljice, a koristi su naročito značajne kod prevremeno rođenih beba.
Bebina pluća su pre rođenja puna tečnosti, a beba prima kiseonik iz placente preko pupčane vrpce. Ukoliko se presecanje odloži, beba će primati još nekoliko minuta kiseonik i krv iz posteljice, dok se pluća pune krvlju i počinju samostalno da rade.Samim tim, bebi se obezbeđuje veći nivo gvožđa i hemoglobina na rođenju.
